About Taryn Stewart

Being the oldest of four children, I grew up with nothing short of a loud and fun house on a Friday night. I loved my siblings and friends racing to the kitchen to grab their slice of pizza first.  I loved the energy, and most of all I enjoyed the company.

While I was not busy chasing my siblings around the house, I had many personal hobbies! I sang in chorus from 7th grade at Hopewell Middle School to 10th grade at Milton High School. During this same time, I also played basketball for the Milton Eagles. During the spring of each school year I competed in the track and field events such as shot put, discus, and 100 the meter dash. Athletics were my thing! I also spent every Sunday working in the preschool aged area at church, after attending the middle & high school Sunday services.

I'm also very artsy. I enjoy creating anything homemade. I enjoy using my cricut to make customized gifts. Most of all I enjoy woodworking and building custom projects around my house and to others in need. It feels very natural to be using my creative side throughout my life.

On the more personal side, I married my best friend in October of  2018. My husband Tyler and I bought our first house in September of 2019, and have been working since to update it and make it our own. Its been a labor of love and we are proud to be young home owners. We just put our eldest Great Dane, Chance, down, but are still enjoying our time with our Great Dane puppy (4 y/o), Ruger. He's the goofiest.

Together we love to travel, fish, and cuddle up for movie nights! Since a lot of his family and mine are involved in the field of education, my husband Tyler is very wonderful in understanding in all that comes with being an educator (especially having to help move me into a new classroom). Seriously, husbands of teachers are the best!

So that is a little about me and my personal life, now let's dive into the reason you are here!

MOID Special Needs 3-5 Teacher

August 2020 - January 2021

Please read my resume to see detailed job description. Also, please enjoy the pictures above.

During Covid, I taught a classroom that was initially supposed to be only Moderate Intellectual Disabilities, but because of online learning, I taught all the in-class students and my neighboring teacher taught the virtual students. I then ended up with a blended class of Moderate & Mild Intellectual Debilities. I enjoyed learning about the different County Technology programs, implementing rotating learning tables, and teaching adaptive curriculum. Most of all, I feel I was successful at organizing students days with their learning in my classroom, along with their push in/pull outs for their service providers.

Please read resume to see detailed job description. Also, please play the video above...enjoy!

This was my first teaching position as a licensed teacher! I worked with many diverse students with all different learning needs. I implemented assistive technology devices, taught with American Sign Language (ASL), and learned about meeting students at their different learning levels by differentiation & using adapted curriculum. I taught adapted curriculum, but tested against the general curriculum GKIDS assessments.

This was a very exclusive classroom within the Fulton County School System. Out of 60 Elementary Schools in FCS, in 2018, there were only 6 schools with a KSE Program.

Proficiencies

Communication Skills

With parents, I work hard to keep them updated on their child's growth by sending notifications home, providing opportunities for each parent to see their child's class work, small or large milestones, or participation while in the classroom or another school setting (previously used Seesaw).

With colleagues, I work hard to communicate clearly and effectively, allowing for no miscommunication. I am respectful of service providers, grade level team members, and administrators time, and approaching each one with the respect and appropriate method of communication.

Organizational Skills

For work, I work hard to ensure that my documentation, student data, teaching pacing plans and lesson plans, as well as my classroom, are all organized allowing for instruction time to be maximized. In my personal life, I work hard to plan
appointments, keep my house organized, and structure our budget to meet financial goals that will allow us to continue planning for our future. I have found that the more organized I am, the less chaotic my life is. I thrive when working in a clean, structured, and optimistic environment.

Time Management

I work hard to prioritize important tasks, and stay within compliance of the due date or complete the task early. I set guidelines and realistic goals dates, when having to break a large task into smaller and more manageable parts.

I also teach my students to be aware of their time and advocate for work time, when working/playing with peers. I do this by providing a visual (image & numeral time) schedule up on the board, that is complemented by a digital classroom clock (in the video under - Work Experience). When my student who goes to Gen. Ed. Math from 8:15-9:15, sees that it is 8:15, they raise their hand and ask to leave, if at that ability level. I am very proud of my students and all their hard work to learn numerals and be able to look at our digital clock and compare it to our daily schedule. My students parents also use it at home, and they rave about how their child displays initiate by following their night-time routine (in bed @ 7:30).

Volunteer Opportunities

Mission trip to Jamaica

April 6-13, 2008

When going to Harmons, Jamaica, which is a small village in the South Central interior of Jamaica, I was able to give back to the community. While constructing hurricane proof houses, sorting and delivering supplies, and repairing damaged homes, we were able to spread the word of God. These ten days were filled with manual labor, adventures, and a lot of personal growth. This is one of the most influential volunteer opportunities I have ever experienced, and I had so much fun hanging out with the locals!

Misson Trip to Guatemala

May 2006 & May 2007

While working in the Guatemala City districts, we spent the majority of our time at the main house. This is where students from all over Guatemala City, came to eat lunch, receive their schooling, and learned practical household chores. I became intrigued with their interest in learning, and how education truly was a privilege to them. I traveled with my church, and was hosted by the Hope for Guatemala Organization.

Scholastic Book Fair

October 2016

While the Scholastic Book Fair was being hosted at Valdosta State University, this was a great volunteer opportunity for me to learn about students literacy interests. During this time I observed students at this book fair, I saw first hand how students were intrigued by their interests in different reading materials. This was such a fun and insightful learning experience for me.

Teaching in my blood

These are really some neat things about my family that relate to my career choice!

Margurette Dickerson-Eiberger

Grandma

When my grandma passed away in 2013, it was very easy to discuss her amazing accomplishments as she left behind an extraordinary legacy. She taught piano in her home on nights after teaching school, and on weekends, while also raising her four children. She created two educational games that sold nation wide, and they were even implemented them in the Denver Public School System where she taught. These games are called State the State (used for Social Studies content and learning the geography of the United States), and Match Patch (which was created for developing phonological awareness and building upon vocabulary skills).  The game State the State has my Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim, incorporated into the games flashcards, and the game Match Patch has my Uncle Carl and Mom on the front cover. She also went out of her way to implement impactful projects into her teaching such as writing to the White House (click the picture of the letter, on the left, from July 1960). My grandma graduated from Regis College (now Regis University) in 1957 with a Bachelors of Arts in English and a minor in Social Studies and an emphasis in Education. She is called the “Pioneer Woman of Regis.” Upon graduation my grandma was one of only three women in the entire university, and the only bachelorette, as the other two were both nuns. On this side of my family, I am related to Ulysses S. Grant (my 5th cousin), by his marriage to Julia Dent (who is a relative of my Grandma Margie).

She was such a driven woman, and I always wish I could have more time to hear her incredible stories!

Eileen Eiberger-Anderson

Mom

Even though my mom graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Sports Science - Exercise Physiology from Colorado State University in Colorado, she had endless opportunities that involved teaching. She taught ski school for ages 4 to adults in Vail, Colorado. On the mountain, she specialized in teaching ski school to the younger ages, as she was appointed the best to work with this age group.  My mom also taught step aerobics while living in Eagle Vail, Colorado. While working full time as a flight service manager for Continental Airlines, she was also an international flight attendant and an in-flight training instructor. My mom passed away in 2002 and we all miss her optimistic attitude and fun energy she exhumed.

Mary Eiberger

Aunt

My Aunt Mary graduated from Colorado College with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Biology and a Masters of Arts Degree in Secondary Science Teaching. She has taught all grades from Kindergarten to twelveth grade, and still continues to work with students directly by tutoring them in all content areas. Like my grandma, my Aunt Mary was well known for developing different strategies and methods that allowed for students to learn about hard concepts in math and science. When she taught in the state of California, she helped to develop the science curriculum for all of the high-schools with a thematic approach to learning. Also, while teaching at Boulder High School, my Aunt Mary developed the complete curriculum for the Outdoor Education Program. During this time she met her husband Tito.

While her husband Tito was teaching at Boulder High School, he also continued to work at CU's Planetarium in Boulder, Colorado. After leaving Boulder High, Tito became the full-time education program director at Fiske Planetarium. He was quickly promoted to run the planetarium as Operations Manager. One neat thing about Tito is that he speaks fluent Spanish, as he is from Caracas, Venezuela.

Hannah Stevens

Cousin

My cousin Hannah graduated from The University of Kansas with a Bachelors of Music Education in May 2016. She was the Lead Music Teacher at Gardner Elementary School in Gardner, Kansas for 3 years. She was also the director of the choir ensemble. Hannah earned the nomination for "First Year Teacher" in the district. Hannah taught at Gardner Edgerton High School in Gardner, Kansas for 3 years. There, she worked as the Assistant Director of the band and choir program. Hannah currently works at Pioneer Ridge Middle School in Kansas where she is the Choir Director! She enjoys instilling her love of music in her students by the bonds and relationships she makes. She is passionate about teaching all kinds of music and enjoys doing this through band and choir. She is expecting to Graduate with her Masters in Music Education in June, and I am very proud of her!

Misty Nemeth

Mother-In-Law

Misty graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education from Thomas University, in Thomasville, Georgia. About two years after receiving her BS, she received her Masters Degree in Special Education from Walden University. Shortly after this, she then went on to complete her Specialists Degree in Educational Leadership form Liberty Christian University.

Misty has been such an encouragement to me as a a fellow educator and mother-in-law. She taught in Colquitt County for 16 years, and most recently has been teaching at Shiloh Point Elementary, in Forsyth County. I am so glad that she moved up from Moultrie to Cumming, to be near Tyler (her son) and I. We are pretty blessed!

Joy Flemming

Grandma-In-Law

Grandma Joy worked very hard to earn her education! She began college after she had her four children. While working part-time in an office, she attended college classes in the evenings. Her weekends were spent studying and taking care of her four children. All of her hard work finally paid off when she not only earned her Bachelors, but also her Masters and Specialists Degree in Early Childhood Education. She graduated with all three of these degrees from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA. She quoted, "I am blessed to have taught for 31 years, and I hope I have made a difference in the children, as I know they have made a difference in me!"
